Poor balance limits activities but can be helped by exercise
Loss of balance leading to an increased fear of falling is a common problem for middle-aged and older people with MS, reports a recent study based on phone interviews with over 1,000 participants. Fear of falling is particularly common in women and is correlated with factors such as past fall history, the degree of MS symptom interference with daily activities, and use of a walking aid. Unfortunately, this fear appears to lead many people to limit their activities.
However, this trial shows that balance problems can be improved through the use of special exercises. In the trial, participants with MS who received rehabilitation training based on motor and sensory strategies showed improvements in balance, as well as reductions in falls and gait improvements. Anyone whose fear of falling is starting to affect their lives may therefore benefit from seeking out balance rehabilitation.

Also - I have found Yoga to be very helpful, provided you start with a "Gentle" or "Restorative" class. Amazing the improvement that has taken place over time, and also amazing the loss of capability when I have paused my participation for even a few weeks.
